Weather

Expect temperatures in the mid 70s-80s at the guest house with a mix of sun and rain, warm days and cool nights. Temperatures in Zapote will be in the 80s-90s with high humidity and rain often in the afternoon. The tourism day (usually in Antigua) is typically warm.

Financial Information

The trip cost is approximately $2,500 USD. This is subject to final flight bookings and the final number of individuals traveling. Incremental payments will be due over a period of months preceding the trip and will be made to SMCC.

  • The trip cost includes: flights; airport fees; food, lodging, and transportation within Guatemala; travel insurance and project costs.
  • The trip cost does not include: souvenirs; meals while traveling outside of Guatemala; or immunizations – see below.

Health

Healing Nations strongly suggests that all travelers be immunized against Hepatitis A and B and be up to date on their tetanus. All travelers should visit either their personal physician or a travel health clinic 4-8 weeks before departure to discuss receiving these, and any additional vaccines.

Zika Virus & Dengue Fever

The Zika and Dengue viruses have a history in Guatemala; however, Zika has become extremely uncommon. You can use the following link to read about Zika: cdc.gov/Zika/.

If a Dengue fever infection were to occur, Healing Nations would follow CDC health recommendations. The risk for Dengue is moderate in lower elevations.

These diseases are primarily spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. Because there is no vaccine for either, people visiting areas with moderate risk (lower elevations) should take steps to prevent infection, such as wearing mosquito repellent and avoiding standing water.

For more information regarding the risks associated with travel to Guatemala, please visit the CDC’s website (URL below). We encourage you to be informed about risks associated with traveling to this country.
