Happy Mayan New Year!

Medical Mission - Guatemala Jan 2020|

This was our day of rest as a team. We started out with blissful sleeping in. Breakfast was 8:30. An hour and a half later than usual! We enjoyed the wonderful food from Maria Jose together and then crammed onto the colorful bus with purple tassels decorating the interior. We climbed up a mountain to the Iximche (pronounced Ish-EEm-Chay) ruins. They are Mayan ruins from the 1400s. Apparently, the area was home to around

Clinic Day 2

Medical Mission - Guatemala Jan 2020|

Hello to all of the people following the Guatemala team! It's the Laura/Randy/Zac blog night. I'm the newbie among the three of our family here. My brother, Randy, and his son, Zac, have been here numerous times. My first reason to come on the trip was to be with my bro and awesome nephew. The other was to do a medical mission, to serve others that desperately need medical attention. As the Diabetes Educator,

Clinic Day 1

Medical Mission - Guatemala Jan 2020|

Such an amazing experience on my first day in Membrillal clinic. As a "newbie" it can be a bit overwhelming not knowing what to expect or even do at times. The support of the more seasoned staff certainly helped especially when you felt at a loss on what to do with so many things happening at one time. What I loved the most was interacting with the families who wait so patiently to be

Goats, Gardens and God

ALP - Haiti Jan 2020|

Today was a good day.  Just like all the days in the previous week.  It was a day filled with joy, happiness, laughter, smiles, and beautiful weather.  I’ve never been to a place with so much and yet so little.  The world has seemed to leave this place in the past in every way, except the most important things.  The people of Haiti’s love for God, family, and each other is infectious.  Smiles that

ALP - Haiti Jan 2020|

Good evening everyone. Greetings from beautiful Haiti. Today was one of those wonderful days that you wished you had every day. Not that the entire trip hasn’t been wonderful, but for me, I spent the morning with 15-20 Haitian pastors. They gather weekly to pray, study and break bread together. Today I was able to participate with them.  Pastor JeanJean asked me if I would speak to the pastors about the importance of discipleship,

Into the Jungles of Haiti. . .

Today was an amazing day. Holly, Janet, and I woke up at 6:00 and went for a morning walk. It was beautiful. We got back just in time for breakfast. We got to the job site and worked hard. Those blocks were heavy. Then we went to the market. The market was packed with people. They were selling whatever you can imagine food, hair products, clothes, and much more. We got a cute curtain

In Haiti, even the chickens attend church.

ALP - Haiti Jan 2020|

Today was our third full day in Haiti. It is so hard to believe; it’s almost as if time has stopped but it has flown by all at the same time. That probably doesn’t make a lot of sense to you all, but I’m sure that our whole team feels the same. Today we were lucky and got to sleep in, because church wasn’t until 8:30. Our wonderful cooks have Sundays off, but we

So, Men’s Choir came tonight

ALP - Haiti Jan 2020|

So, Men’s Choir came tonight. The day started off with some breakfast, rice and beans, and then left to the house that we are working on.  We all, for the most part, I will not say any names (3 supervisors), started making the concrete, and then filling the holes that the people who will take the house had dug the two days before.  By the time we left, all the concrete was poured.  After

Every Day is a 10 in Haiti!!

ALP - Haiti Jan 2020|

So, today was a day of humility.  After an amazing breakfast prepared by the best cooks in all of Haiti, we went to a house that was getting a new floor with our donated funds.  The house was modest, 4 rooms.  It was decorated so nice.  The family was there moving what little furniture they had outside.  You could see they took pride in their home.  We all helped hauling sand & carrying buckets of cement into the
