Day 6- Wrapping up a beautiful week

June 25th, 2024|Medical - Guatemala Jun 2024|

It has been great being back in Guatemala for another year.  It started out rainy, but the week has ended with the beautiful Guatemalan weather which why it is the country of eternal spring.  I once again am struck by the importance of community and the relationships that are made. Sometimes it can be tough.  At the first medical outreach conducted by Healing Nations (Hungry For Life as it

Have you ever landed a plane in a field?

ALP - Haiti Jan 2020|

We made it to United Christians International (UCI), our destination.  We spent most of the day traveling.  The highlight, which I thought would be the terror, of the day was taking a prop plane with MFI and land in a field near where we are staying.  I’ve been dreading this for a month.  The good news is it was so great.  I think we all agreed it was awesome.  So smooth, landing was perfect,

Getting Ready and Excited. . .

ALP - Haiti Jan 2020|

It's been an eventful week getting ready to go, to say the least, but as I sit here, the night before our flight, it's becoming real.  We've had sickness bad enough to stop someone from going, last minute cancellations and added new people.  Mike was one of the casualties, so we will certainly miss him, but I'm sure our dogs will be happy to have him home.  I'm not sure who I will see

VUKA ceremony

EHT - Kenya Nov 19|

All day Friday we continued to rely on God’s faithfulness to provide good weather for the VUKA (Rite of Passage) Camp graduation ceremony. God is good, we had sunshine in the morning as we helped the girls get ready for the big day. A sweet woman made traditional skirts for us as well. Despite the clouds rolling in God held off the rain all day. The celebration was filled with traditional songs, gifts, and

Last Day at Mt. Elgon

EHT - Kenya Nov 19|

Greetings from Gogo Diana. Gogo is grandmother in Swahili. Gogos are greatly respected in Kenya. My word for this week is transformation. When we first came, the girls were very quiet and reserved. They looked away when we glanced at them. They didn't engage with us when we were teaching. As the week went on, they warmed up and on Thursday when we were outside and chatting with one or two girls we were

Thursday on Mt. Elgon

Hello Marafiki! This is Shangazi Karen.  We have had such limited service here so we are sorry we haven’t been able to get more messages out to all of you who are supporting us in prayer!  God is good! We have been truly blessed here and graciously welcomed into this family of amazing women and girls.  Yesterday, I had the opportunity to awaken at 5:15 am and run with 104 young girls in the

Camp Day 3

EHT - Kenya Nov 19|

Hi!  This is Shangazi Tanya!  That’s “auntie” in Swahili😊 We are about halfway through our stay here in the beautiful Mt. Elgon district.  I knew I would be in awe of the beauty of the country, people and the work being done here, but there are truly no words to describe HOW in awe I am.  We are nestled on a hillside.  There is lava rock throughout the property.  The neighbors have small straw covered

Day Two of camp

EHT - Kenya Nov 19|

The team has been very busy and has had spotty coverage, here is a short update from day 2: We played games with girls today and it was so fun. They also had a sharing time tonight where they sang and told poems and some shared their stories. It continues to rain here and the mud is increasing everyday. We need prayers for the rain to stop, the land to dry up so the

Team Update!

EHT - Kenya Nov 19|

Day 1: We had an adventurous day. A kind of planes trains and automobiles but for us it was planes buses taxis and moda modas which are motorcycle taxis. We remembered you can’t rely on your own plans. Missing our plane due to closed roads caused us to rely on God and his plans. We would have had a busy day if we had made our flight but due to circumstances beyond our control
