Day Three – Sacred Space
Is it possible to consider football with beach balls as sacred space? Is it reasonable to believe that giggling with children of many ages as sacred laughter? Is it true that a Jesus story told in a few minutes in two languages as a sacred bible sharing? Is it a thing to think the wee ones to the teenagers opening their mouths for fluoride treatments while we sing “ahhhhh”
Another wonderful day in Guatemala
Another wonderful day in Guatemala. I really love these people, they are so kind and gracious. I want to share a medical experience I had a few days ago. We had a 9 year old young man who came in with his parents requesting a circumcision. The family said they couldn’t get anyone in Guatemala to do this for him-he had a few cases of phimosis and needed something to be done. So I
Children’s Ministry makes their own capes
Post by Robyn I’m blessed to share a room with five amazing women. I’ve watched them for two days now and marveled at who they become in their element. These women are smart, gifted, and their talents know no bounds. They are nurses and doctors and the impact they have on the people in Guatemala in just a few short minutes is immeasurable. They move from room to room, completely oblivious to the capes
Joyfully Painfully Exhausted
Post Written by Janet What an amazing second day! It has been wonderful to see how the dental clinic has grown in just 2 and a half years. From our first dental clinic run July 2015 we were only able to do basic cleanings and MULTIPLE extractions. NOW we can do MULTIPLE fillings, cleanings, very few extractions, fluorides, and scalings. Also the blessing to have a dental chair and dental equipment to speed up
Out of my comfort zone
Post by Janelle Today I did something way out of my comfort zone…I looked at teeth all day long and enjoyed it, not to mention in another country!!! I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would enjoy looking in the mouths of people. But I did. When you pray and serve the Lord with an open heart, miracles happen. I loved seeing the children come to the dentist clinic with happy faces
The team has landed
The team has landed in Guatemala! They will post a blog post tomorrow after the first day of clinic!
Saying Goodbye
Sunday The last day with my group “family”. So this is our last day/night with each other and it is going by faster than I would like it to go. We started by waking up an hour later than normal and it was hard for me to sleep in that long. I sat in bed and reflected on my time here in this beautiful country. I never really thought I was actually going to
Last Day
Saturday… What a week we’ve had! Leaving UCI is always hard, but this trip we left in a very special way. Earlier in the week during one of our deep conversations at night, Janet & Mike decided they wanted to get baptized. Haiti holds a special place in their hearts and what better way to end our mission than to have Pastor JeanJean baptize them. This baptism was BEAUTIFUL! None of us had ever
Goats, goats and more goats
By: Kobe Doman Today we went to John John’s house and had bananas and French toast for breakfast! When we where done we got one goat and gave it to a family. Then we went back to get Chocolate and Gorge (the goats) to give to two other families. We had to get the goats on the bus and it was a nightmare. When we got off the bus we got to meet Juan
Did You Know….
Today was a school day. We brought Playdoh with cookie cutters and string shapes to play with the kids. We made stuff that they probably didn’t know existed like a snowman. We saw the puppet show again. Next, we helped with recess. Some people ran, some chased, some walked around with 5 or more kids holding their hands. Today we gave the sponsor kids their packs. Did you know the American Bread is the
Reconnecting & Blowing Kisses
Today was a pretty busy day. After breakfast (Haitian pancakes) we loaded up and headed for the job site. The guys in the group each took 3 loads of 80lbs. bags of cement about 150 yards to the house. Then a motorcycle magically appears and hauls the rest of the cement to the house. Didn’t know that was an option. Alright, enough crying. We leveled out the floor, then rounded up about 2 tons
