When we first arrived and walked out of the airport, we found a large group of people. It surprised me to find that this large group of people was there to greet us! I never imagined that we would receive such a big and hospitable welcome. As we boarded the bus and began the drive to the hostel, I asked one of of the girls on the bus with us who made the sign. At first she seemed like she might need to be ashamed, but when I described how welcomed I felt and what a gift it was, they got really excited to share all the work they’d done to prepare for our arrival.

But it didn’t end there. On day two in Honduras we made the drive out to the church for the first time and were welcomed again! This time with an even bigger crowd and the vast majority of them being the children that are served by the church. The fun started right away with games and laughter with the kids–it was probably the largest game of duck-duck-goose I’d ever seen! Shortly after lunch, some of the local men started working again on the building and before long a good portion of the team and the adults joined in to get the work done. You’d never guess how physically taxing the work was by the amount of laughter and joy coming from this rag-tag work crew!

I feel so grateful to be here, to experience this kind of hospitality and am looking forward to connecting even more with the community over the coming days!
