Today was the first full day of clinic appointments in the new building! A group of us also went on some home visits in the town of Santo Tomas. We saw three elderly patients who have been seen by our clinic staff for 8 years! For various reasons, they can’t make it into clinic anymore so we brought doctors, nurses, and other team members (or as Cait says, “mis amigos de los Estados Unidos!) to visit.
The home visits were very humbling, the people we visited were very grateful and hospitable and happy to see our team. They live in homes very unlike ours at home, yet they take pride in their homes and their belongings. The first family sent our team away with artwork made by the husband, who is 86 and still works everyday in the fields. Our second home visit was to a woman who has had a few bad falls and so she has been bedbound, but today we were thrilled to see her sitting in a chair eagerly awaiting the team’s arrival. It was a gift to get to be in their homes and we hope they feel seen by many who care for them, but mostly by God who cares for them.
We also visited Christian and Pedro’s art studio and gallery where they teach women and children skills, crafts, and art. Pedro shared his testimony, which was very moving for all of us to hear. God has been very faithful to his family and now his family is such a blessing to their community in Membrillal.
I (Bill) have kept very busy with jobs around the clinic, mainly installing and fixing various things. Today we got to go with Christian to a few hardware stores in town and found most of what we needed. I fixed dental carts, installed smoke alarms, installed solar panels for our security system, and installed a dishwasher. It’s been a busy day!
I (Dana) am enjoying being with the team and making Corey do all the team leader responsibilities! This team is full of joy and excitement over what God has done to bring this clinic to fruition. It is a gift to get to see it flowing so smoothly from the moment patients walk through the door in registration until they leave the pharmacy (yes, we can now say that word! It’s official!).
Thanks to all of you for following along throughout this entire process, it is exciting to think of all the people who will continue to be blessed through this ministry here.
